Instruction

Year 1

My instruction for both of my English and Math Essentials classes are diversified to meet the needs of each student.  I’ve included the use of instructional technology in both classes, which helps promote independence and offers varied methods of continued instruction and independent practice.

In my ICT classes, I’ve ensured that I meet the needs of all students in each class especially those with special needs.  I’ve created a homogenous presence within the classroom setting by ensuring that the needs of all special education students are met while at the same time creating a level of instruction that helps all students of the class.

My instruction did change for my life skills class in some ways and it remained the same in others. My English and Math Essentials classes at West are diversified to meet the needs of each student, and they have stayed diverse in that respect. I feel that adding more technology as a resource to my Math and English classes has really helped provide them with more opportunities for independence by instructing them how to find their own information via their own devices. I feel that this causes a greater gap between the student and the one-to-one which a step in the right direction.

My goal for this class in the middle of the year became to increase student independence by increasing the opportunities the students had in engaging in appropriate study habit behaviors. My quest was to expose the students to as many resources and checklists possible, guiding them through all steps necessary to build their Bio vocabulary and increase their skills, showing them how to use these resources, and then rewarding (giving points toward a quiz) for utilizing the resources independently. The more the students practiced these behaviors independently, the more habitual they became for some, resulting in better grades and better self-esteem.
